We are proud that Brampton Primary School was recognised as an ‘Outstanding’ school by Ofsted in Dec 2023, a testament to our commitment to excellence in education and inclusion. This prestigious accolade reflects our dedicated staff, supportive parents and carers, and, most importantly, our hardworking pupils. Welcome to our website. I am delighted to be the head teacher of this wonderful school, situated in the culturally and ethnically diverse district of East Ham, Newham. We are a large, inclusive school where difference is celebrated and consideration for one another promoted. Brampton Primary School is an exceptional and inspirational place: both children and adults alike care about and respect each other. We learn, laugh, have fun and achieve together.
We are proud that Brampton is also a place where every adult member of our school community (staff, governors and parents) has uncompromising aspirations for every child, so that they are successful academically, socially and personally from whatever their starting point: building personal success.

Our Children
We have a very diverse community, which is reflected in the make-up of our school. Our children come from a variety of places around the world and we like to celebrate this in classrooms and at special events, like Cultural Diversity Week. The atmosphere around the school is positive and each class has its own character.
From Nursery to Year 6 the children are encouraged to become independent learners and take responsibility for their own progress. We work together to build confidence and self-esteem, allowing children to explore different activities in a range of ways. We are developing pedagogy across the school which emphasises putting the needs of children first. It allows them to learn by visual, auditory or practical ways.
We celebrate children’s achievements in lots of ways, from stickers, to trophies, to end of term certificates.
The Building
Our school was built in 1915, with two buildings – Infant and Junior. These have been used as girls and boys buildings and as separate primary and secondary schools. We have a great Dinner/Sports Hall with amazing facilities, alongside our Nature Garden. The ‘Shed’ used to stand in the middle of the playground.
The Shed – A History!
This building has a rich history, which may surprise you! It started life as a bicycle shed but later had its sides built in to create two rooms. Former pupil Dame Vera Lynn tells us that during her time at Brampton it was used as a craft room. It has had various other uses including its time as a Parents Room, as an after-school club run by Community Links and has been a resource centre. It was then converted into our current, wonderful and well-resourced Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) unit.
About Dame Vera Lynn
Dame Vera Lynn was born in East London and attended Brampton when it was an Infant School, a Junior School and a Secondary School. One of our Year 2 classes got in touch with Dame Vera, as part of a Local History project. She offered to come to school and visit the pupils and spoke to them about how school had changed since she was here.
Local Area
We are based in a residential area of East Ham, next to Brampton Park. There is a range of housing, from semi-detached houses, to terraces and flats. In Geography and History topics we study the local area. We look at changes that have happened in the past and our ideas for the future. We frequently use the park for events such as Sports Day and sponsored walks, but also for Art or Science activities.
