Education is a partnership between children, parents/carers and school. At Brampton, we expect all children to work hard whilst at school. In order for children to achieve their full potential, there has to be a corresponding amount of downtime to ensure a work/life balance, so time outside school should justifiably be for relaxation and activities appropriate to each child’s age and stage of development.
Brampton Primary greatly values the many, and varied, activities in which parents and carers involve their children. Nevertheless, in support of their class work we do ask children, with their parents and carers, to carry out some tasks at home.
The purpose of homework at Brampton Primary includes:
- to consolidate and reinforce skills and understanding particularly in English and maths;
- to develop an effective partnership between the school, parents and carers;
- to strengthen the process of learning in school and give parents and carers a ‘window’ into their children’s school work;
- to extend learning and provide parents, carers and pupils with an opportunity to work together and
- to encourage pupils, as they get older, to develop the self-discipline needed to study on their own.
